Die Ausstellung, kuratiert von Ulrike Tschabitzer-Handler/Brand Unit, beleuchtet die kreative Zusammenarbeit zwischen Mensch und Maschine, wobei KI nicht nur als Werkzeug, sondern auch als Mitgestalter·in betrachtet wird. Sie zeigt, wie künstliche Intelligenz neue, innovative Ausdrucksformen in Mode, Design und Kommunikation ermöglicht und die Grenzen von Kreativität erweitert. Mit Arbeiten von internationalen Künstler·innen wird das transformative Potenzial von KI als Erweiterung menschlicher Vorstellungskraft greifbar gemacht.

Diese Ausstellung ist kein Archiv des Bestehenden, sondern ein Sprungbrett ins Unbekannte – ein Raum, in dem menschliche Kreativität und künstliche Intelligenz gemeinsam Zukunft erfinden.

Begleitet wird die Exhibition von Impulsen rund um das Kernthema KI. Das Closing Weekend von 10. bis 13. September lädt mit spannenden Vorträgen von Rechtsanwältin Julie Vinazzer-Hofbauer, Rechtsanwalt Philip Jakober, Udo Fon und Oliver Kartak zu einem tiefgründigen und diskursiven Abschluss ein.

GENERATIVE KI IM DESIGN(BEREICH) – eine urheberrechtliche Beleuchtung von mindestens zwei Seiten

Was passiert mit urheberrechtlich geschütztem Design (als Trainingsmaterial) in der KI – zu Recht? Schützt das Urheberrecht auch »KI-Kunst«? Und welche Schritte können unternommen werden, wenn die KI sich geschützter Originale bedient? Erhalten Designer:innen eine Vergütung, wenn ihre Designs durch die KI verwendet werden?  Diesen und weiteren Fragen rund um den Input und Output generativer KI widmen sich Rechtsanwältin Julie Vinazzer-Hofbauer und Rechtsanwalt Philip Jakober in Rahmen eines Dialog- und Diskussionsvortrags.

🧬  Rechtsanwältin Julie Vinazzer-Hofbauer und Rechtsanwalt Philip Jakober arbeiten gemeinsam in der auf das geistige Eigentum (IP law) spezialisierten Kanzlei JAKOBER RECHTSANWÄLTE, welche sich seit fast zwei Jahrzehnten schwerpunktmäßig auf diesen Rechtsbereich, insbesondere das Urheberrecht und Designrecht national wie auch international, fokussiert. Sie vertreten seit über 1 ½ Jahrzehnten die österreichische Verwertungsgesellschaft Bildrecht, welche für die Wahrnehmung der Urheberrechte u.a. von Designer·innen und Grafiker·innen in Österreich zuständig ist. Zudem profitieren designaustria und deren Mitglieder vom Erfahrungsschatz der spezialisierten Rechtsanwälte aufgrund jahrelanger guter Zusammenarbeit.

Superintelligence + Design = ? Why designers now (must) help shape the future of AI

Roughly 400 million people prompt every day. Every prompt is a miniature creative work that shapes an ever‑evolving picture: the design of the future. In the foreseeable future, systems that today are still seen as »AI tools« will become important partners. It’s time to understand why science‑fiction fears make us blind—and how resonant AI design enables transparent collaboration that opens up the »black box.«

🧬 About Udo Fon: Udo Fon is a versatile artist and artistic researcher working at the intersection of technology, imagination, and creativity. With an interdisciplinary background, he explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can be shaped not merely as a tool, but as a cultural and human force for peaceful and collective development. His work combines technological innovation with philosophical reflection, investigating the role of individual values, aesthetics, and humanity in a world increasingly shaped by AI.

For the artist, engaging with AI systems is a logical continuation of the creative process. For the designer, it is a necessary challenge to develop models that not only facilitate use but also make conscious interaction visible.«

Oliver Kartak

»Denoising the Unconscious – KI als Dialog mit dem ES (AI as a Dialogue with the Id)« delves into his pioneering work with generative image models. For Kartak, AI is not just a tool, but a catalyst that enables him to explore the depths of the unconscious. Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s theory of the Id, his work confronts themes such as sexuality, aggression, power, and shame. The lecture will explore how AI facilitates a process of self-reflection, where the technology itself becomes part of a dialogue with the unconscious mind.

🧬 About Oliver Kartak: Oliver Kartak (born 1968) is a renowned visual artist and professor of Design and Narrative Media at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. A pioneer in generative image models, Kartak uses AI to create sculptural works that explore complex human themes. With a background as a graffiti artist, brand designer, photographer, and director, his work is a fusion of art, technology, and psychological exploration.

⚪️ »I can engage with this technology in a way I have never experienced before. The technological aspect of AI is virtually negated, and I am confronted with the depths of the unconscious. It is this process of unintentionality that I find liberating and fulfilling. I don’t see AI as a tool, but as a dialogue with the Id, revealing what I didn’t know I wanted.«
